How Can Google Defeat Ranking by Proxy?

I am noticing a growing trend, some webmasters are becoming more clever and are now ranking by proxy.  Basically, this means instead of promoting their own website for keywords, they simply will promote a user-generated web page from a already popular website which pages easily gain ranking in Google.  These web pages will contain links to the webmaster website.

An example is posting a new topic on let’s say Digital Point Forums (a popular SEO discussion board) which discusses and advertises your new service, so you provide a press release story with links to your website.  Now, it is natural for this Digital Point page to gain some ranking because the site domain has a good report with the search engines, but Ranking by Proxy is the act of actually marketing and providing SEO efforts for that particular Digital Point page — getting it to rank for competitive keywords in the search engines, but the page is about a new service your company is offering with direct links to your website, so in essence you are getting your website to rank by proxy.

In many cases it is easier to get a “popular” website web pages to rank and usually in shorter time.  Since the website is already a trusted website within Google it is simpler to increase the ranking and make the page favored by the search engines.  This method of operations currently works.  It does a lot less for your website organic ranking and SEO even though some benefit exist, but it is most helpful for getting traffic to your website from competitive keywords.  Also, I can see a benefit for websites which have been sandboxed and aren’t currently ranking for any favorable keywords.

I wonder how long will it be before Google catches on and try to stop these type of proxy rankings.   And if they do try, then how will they be able to determine the true nature of a “trusted” website page ranking?  How can they detect and stop this type of behavior?  It may be an impossibility.

Ant Onaf Banned on SEOChat.com Forums

I have been PERMANENTLY banned on SEO Chat!  Why?  I don’t know.  But I bet it had something to do with that drop link I placed!  I had my account for a few years now, but I only had 2 post, one of my post contained a link (I can’t remember if the link was hyperlinked or not — it was truly a natural link for me).  I was replying to a post where a guy was asking for SEO help and SEO services so I replied to the post and said a few words about what I can provide him then dropped a link to http://www.antonaf.com, I hope that link was worth it cause I think its the reason why I got my account banned!

Banned by SEO Chat

I got my Adsense account banned once back in 2004, but it was reinstated within that same week (I did some research myself and presented it to Google and I assume they investigated on their end then reinstated my account after concluding I was not responsible for the thousands of fictious clicks on my Adsense links).  Anyway, other than that I never had an account of mine banned!  I guess there’s a second time for everything!  Thanks SEO Chat!

Introducing Pay Per Web Page - Search Engine Optimization

AntOnaf.com introduces its old service with a new twist.  I have created a sample package which can be applied to virtually any website, but the uniqueness about this package is the pricing model.  I’ve created a Pay Per Web Page pricing model.  This pricing model makes it affordable, unique, flexible, and beneficial.  Here’s an example of how it works:

You have 6 web pages which need to be optimized this does not include miscellaneous pages such as service agreeement pages, privacy policy pages, miscellaneous pages, etc.  By excluding those pages you have already saved money.  Those particular pages do not need any optimization or search engine ranking, therefore by paying only for the pages which will be optimized you can save tons of money.

I don’t care if you have 1 page or 1000 pages — I want your business!  Of course, I can only take on a handful of clients at a time, so first come first serve, but if I can’t take on your project due to being fully booked then I will recommend you to a few SEO service providers who are just as top notch!

Okay, enough already, check out the new SEO service:  http://www.antonaf.com/services/on-page-optimization/

Block Googlebot & Yahoo! Slurp from crawling dynamic and duplicate pages using robots.txt

You can block your dynamic pages using a simple robots.txt command.  If you have dynamic pages similar to http://www.antonaf.com/index.php?action=555 which creates duplicate content for your website then it is advised that you block the search bots from scanning these pages.  Google and Yahoo are currently the only major search engines who honor the use of the “*” wildcard key.

If you want to block your website dynamic pages from Google and Yahoo! search bots then open your robots.txt file and include lines similar to the below:

User-agent: *
/index.php?action=555     # will block any dynamic URL which has this exact path name.  These type of dynamic URL’s are notorious for creating duplicate content

User-agent: Googlebot ¼br />
/index.php?action=*       # will block Googlebot from crawling or indexing any dynamic URL similar to this path name, not limited to only one single path.  The * is a wildcard which tells Googlebot to ignore all URL’s up to and after the * wildcard.

User-agent: Yahoo! Slurp
/index.php?action=*        # will block Yahoo! Slurp (search bot) from crawling or indexing any dynamic URL similar to this path name, not limited to only one single path.  The * is a wildcard which tells Yahoo! Slurp to ignore all URL’s up to and after the * wildcard.

NOTE: Your path to block may differ than the above. It should be whatever your URL path is, following the “?”, e.g. index.php?WHATEVERYOURURLHAVEHERE=

The “?” specifies the page is dynamic which is commonly uncrawlable by search engines.  Also, you may be using a different file name than “index”, and/or a different web programming language than .php (such as: .html, .asp, etc.)

By properly blocking your dynamic pages you help search bots properly crawl your website and save bandwidth.  To be sure your URL’s are being blocked by Google you should log into the Google Webmaster Central and check.   Once logged in go to Tools >> Analyze robots.txt

Near the bottom of the page you will find a “Test URL’s” section.  You can check multiple URL’s at once.  I suggest using GSite Crawler to get a list of URL’s (plus a sitemap).  Once Googlebot has crawled your robots.txt file you will be able to check your robots.txt to be sure it is working as it should.  When you perform a check you will see a results script like this:

Google Is Hard to Beat

As an SEO it must be admitted Google is hard to beat!  This is because Google defenses are set-up strategically military-styled.  Let’s think about it the PageRank is the general (the trusted relationship) protecting and breifing the “top search result” – it is almost common for a site with a PR8 or better to rank for multiple keyword phrases in all or at least Google search engine.  The lieutanant is the algorithm code which gives the orders and control the troops.  The robots are the soldiers and frontline men who defend and fight the opposing clan — which is Us!
